Practical Autism - About the Author

Hello,

My name is Pete, I am 34 years old, and I was diagnosed with mid-end autism in September 2008.

Technically, I guess being so-called 'Mid-End' autistic, means that I have autism somewhere around the middle of the autistic spectrum.
Whereas on a  personal  level this has obvious advantages because I can do lots of everyday things and I am not entirely dependant on another person.
Again on a very personal level (and this does not apply to all autistic people at all), this does have, for me, disadvantages.
The disadvantages, for me, are:

I do work full time (in the railway industry) and my employer is very accommodating and supportive of me, which I am forever grateful for.

Whilst going through the diagnostic process, I was given an email address of a lady who specialises in 'solution focussed therapy and support' for people with Autism, Asperger Syndrome, learning disabilities, and others.
This lady is called Vicky Bliss, and she runs Missing Link Support Services, who provide this Solution Focussed Brief Therapy, and has also written books on the subject.
(Vicky's website address is available by clicking HERE)
Since me and Vicky's initial email communications, we have emailed a fair amount and we soon realised that in each email one of us learned something new, something helpful to the other.
It seems that I am Solution Focussed naturally!

I have studied myself for a good many years and over this time I have worked out practical and psychological ways which have helped me get through 'autistic-situations' on a day-to-day basis.
I have by no means conquered every autistic-situation, and to be honest, there are not many of these situations I have completely 'conquered' - But what I have done is devise ways of making life just that little bit easier.

It is with this in mind that I present this website to anyone who might find the practical help and downloadable documents I have created on this website helpful.

Thanks for visiting.
